OFF TOPIC: Poison Ivy Dermatitisand Medrol Dose-pak
On my metal detecting foray into Mississippi this last Wednesday I guess that it IS on topic a little bit I found something that wish I hadn't found. The entire campsite was covered with poison ivy. I had good gloves on. But occasionally I would have to urinate and I would also wipe sweat from my eyes it got hot, contrary to the weatherman's report of cooler temps.
Nevertheless, I feel the resulting dermatitis coming on strong. On every area that I touched. All the tender areas of my anatomy are starting to feel the onset.
So I called my mother's doctor and asked her if she would write me a prescription. Thankfully, this doctor is from the old school and just called in a prescription without charging me a visit.
Anyway, she gave me a corticosteroid drug called Medrol Dosepak. Each day, you take a declining number of 4 mg tablets of methyl-prednisone. It is supposed to dry up the poison ivy. I'll cut right to the chase. Has any one of you taken it??
I am really aiming this thread at those of you who have been treated with this medication FOR poison ivy dermatitis.
Tomorrow is Saturday, and I am hoping that during the night tonight the first day treatment is 6 tablets before meals that the drug will kich the dermatitis in the butt. I already feel my danglies swelling up. That is, by far, the worst torture: Sorry about sounding a bit out of order here. I don't mean to try be comical today as I am distressed about this crap. But I was willing to pay the price to find some stuff.
So I plowed right in there. Found two dropped 3 ringers and a button back and a whole rivet from a tent or poncho. All deep, and all in VERY hard ground. My friend was using his F75SE. But he is still learning the machine. It definitely was NOT the machine's fault. But right now, I don't care about all of that.. How quick will this Medrol start drying up my poison Ivy dermatitis????? I catch poison ivy BAD. Never tried the Medrol Dosepak but even with taking shots for it or applied ointments, it always lasts about 10 days.
I feel bad for you because I know how it is and it is no fun. Would be interested to know how it works for you. Good luck with it. Sheeche, big price to pay. A gold coin or a CSA buckle would have lessened the pain. Can't imagine having it on your ornaments. Hope the stuff works for you dude!!!
I said a prayer for your danglers Haven't had poison ivy since moving away from the east coast. But, I've found splashing a bit of isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the area stops the itch.
If its at all raw it'll sting like the dickens - after that - the itching is usually gone. Alcohol on the nads.. I can hear Kevin screaming from Cali, lol. Only ever had this once and my left hand was swollen the next day to twice its size Doc gave me the treatment where you take pills starting with 6 a day down to 1 and overnight the swelling went down. I know this area still has some nice silver coins but stay away.
To this day I found out what it looked like and even if an area has similar types of vines I move on. Kevin, I use to get posion ivy 5 to 6 times a year til I started using Zanfel, you can get it at a drugg store, I swear by it, it works for me, look into it, google it Reply Quote.
Yes Caretaker, totally agree. Being hyper sensitive to poison ivy myself, it seems all I have to do is look at it and i will get it!
I have had ZANFEL old tube of it once that was probably a couple years old and it didn't work so realize the stuff does have shelf life. Guys, the Medrol Pac worked I am on day two and the breakout on the very sensitive areas The treatment last for 5 or 6 days.
I will finish it out like the Dr. I have washed my jewels in alcohol AFTER scratching them until they were raw!!!!! I stood there and took the horrfic pain as long as possible But I didn't do all those things this time. If that's that stiff that comes in a squeeze tube and has grit in it. Do y'all know what it is???
Hand soap for mechanics and other trades. I promise I ain't yarnin'. The guy who patented it was working at the fac'try that made this soap also sold under the name Zanfel and many of the employeed already realized that it "worked a treat" borrowed that phrase from my British friends on Poison Ivy if used a specific was in the directions on the tube.
I have used it on my hands, the other places previously mentioned, and face. The feeling is addictive!!!!! Especially to certain spots!!! But I got off cheap this time. I got this prescription stuff that works too. The only thing I don't like about Medrol is that it is a cortico-steroid and they make me feel weird. But I am enjoying the freedom from the dermatitis. But I was desperately digging holes that day with gloves and it was steaming hot and I was dripping sweat from every pore and crack.
I was trying to wipe the sweat with the back of my glove but this site was covered with those yellow-green three-leaved demon weeds. If I had a big sprayer and a five gallon bucket of Round up I'd show it who's boss.
LOL Thanks guys, for your kind replies. I'm starting to feel like y'all are my friends. I have been thinking that a while. That's why I came back. I may have to stick with yards and woods and places, but I ain't giving up detecting no more. And if I ever offer to sell my AT Pro Not even if I offer the whole thing for a hundred bux. I couldn't ask ya to do that. A person would be foolish for not buying one for that.
A person would be foolish for selling one for that. Y'all have a great week-end As a physician who has personally prescribed this for myself for severe poison ivy dermatitis of both forearms I'm glad it's kicking in and you're feeling better!
I have always hated poison ivy! My grandfather could pull it out of the ground barehanded without ever a reaction I grew up living in heavy wooded lots so it was always there Reply Quote. It's really bizarre how the oil from that plant can be so horrible for some like myself while others are totally immune to it. I know of a hunter who got it one year, real bad, then the next year was extra careful and got it AGAIN and in the same spots!
His doctor asked him did you wash your coat from last year? And of course he didnt and the doc explained that the oil from the plant can stay active for a LONG time! I also heard about these guys who were camping and went into the woods and dragged out dead wood w vines poison ivy all over it.
They burned it and all ended up going to the hospital for inhaling the oil in the smoke. Their faces all swelled up and were needless to say in alot if discomfort.
